Final Days!

The last few days - or - How many farewell dinners can you have???

actually quite a few if you are one of the last to leave the beach!

Lots of goodbyes and see you next years.

The weather is now hot, and the sting rays are in the shallows, the bo-bo flies are plentiful, so it must be time to go....

A visit to the tire shop in Loreto for a set of new truck tires - yes, more tires...

a wash and wax from Dante

Time for one last paddle before we pack up the boats.

Luis (our landlord) is getting ready for Semana Santa (Holy Week).  big dump truck and bobcat to fill some wash outs and fix the entry road.  Our beach camp feels crowded to us when there are about 30 rigs - during Semana Santa the beach camper population reaches the thousands!  It's a very popular spot.
This is the palapa next to us (Steve & Nan's place) it was in need of some repair, a big wash out from the last storms.

Weekend visitors from Santa Rosalita (about 100 km north) Net fishing from the beach - good catch this time.

sharing my shell garden with the 'kids'

making new friends right up to the last day..

One last camp fire with the customary margarita!

We are one of the last eight left on the beach.........it was a very quiet night.

Adios Playa el Coyote!

bits and pieces

Here are a few bits and pieces for you - some of the things that happened that missed out on earlier blog posts (no real reason for that)

The time Steve and Nan were cruising around in their porta boat and the motor quit!  They started rowing back to the beach - then the oar lock broke!  along came Pedro to the rescue and towed them back to shore.

and the beach parties - Pedro's birthday was worth remembering!  (it was his 60th)
Robin and Margarita (Mago) dancing on the beach

Party On!

the night John lost his socks!

Actually John gave away his socks to an admirer....a few weeks later at happy hour he was presented with a nice warm toque!  A very good trade to a true northerner...............

Yes we got into the fun....

All those windy days that were only good for kite flying.  John is the champ!

and all those unique birds we get to see on our explorations..... here are a few samples - these photos are from Nan...a true photographer with a super camera and lenses (my shots with my little camera from a moving kayak do not compare)

Black-crowned Night-heron
 p.s. I fixed the mistake on a previous post - yellow-crowned/black-crowned - mix up.

Ibis
Green Heron

Great Egret
Blue Footed Booby bird  (Deb's photo)

All of the tail gate picnics on our back road adventures.

Clowning around in the desert!

Me completing another Island circumnavigation in my kayak!

And remember the back road adventures....road no-road......

When Doug got stuck and we had to dig and push to get him out....

All good times!

Catching Up!

The days are going by so quickly now.  The wind has slowed down, and the temperature is rising, and the time is running out..........

The last weeks are always busy getting to the activities planned but not happened yet.  Lots of pictures to tell the stories.............
Another day of beachcombimg - photo by Nan

Craft Day - working on a gourd
The finished project!

John leading the way into an estuary in Santa Barbara Bay

a little further up the river...

After the river trip we head over to Isla Tecomate or Hat Island as we call it.
This island is another to add to my "List"
Landing on Hat island - photoby Nan

A beautiful evening on the beach.

A flat calm morning and a visitor to the bay!  Look closely and you may see a black fin.
the fin appears again just behind me....

another photo by Nan
Yay! finally getting close to the whale shark....it was a very short visit this time.  This whale shark was about 20 - 25 feet long, and a bit shy.

A reunion at the beach!
Friends from Gabriola Island stop to visit on route to La Paz. We are calling this a no boat rendezvous - we all are Fisher Owners and belong to the FOG group at home.  Chris and Marilyn (Fisher 30) Steve and Nan (Fisher 37) and us John and Deb  (Fisher 25)
Good Times!

The  Birds and the Bees!
Hey, that's my food!

A special treat - pedicure with Denise

A trip to the Garlic farms at San Jose de Magdalena - time for a tailgate party.

Another road trip - this one is a back road adventure to rock/cave paintings on the other side of Bahia Conception.  We have taken this trip before, it is a beautiful place to be.
driving up the river

crossing a wash

On the way home we stop at one of our favorite watering holes!

See this little bay? wouldn't you love to kayak around here?

This trip was a bit of a challenge - 8 explorers having to portage a portion of the bay.

Nan having a good chuckle at John.....yup he's stuck has to get out and drag the kayak across the sandbar just like the rest of us.
I must point out that this is technically an Island (at high tide) - Isla El Requeson - another for my list!

what is everyone looking at??

this Black-crowned Night-heron

John drifts by the egrets and herons....

The end of a long day usually means hungry and thirsty - we always find an answer to that problem!

Good Times! with Good Friends!
